Abstract
In the beginning, this communication reviews how digitalization is transforming television. Next, it analyses how the public institutions take part in the process of implementing digital television, specially in the terrestrial platform. In adittion, the main challenges that digitalization supposes for public broadcasters are identified. In order to exemplify how public intervention and public service can successfully contribute to the deployment of DTT having a leader role during the migration process, the case of Catalonia is described and analysed.
